Inspiration

Nothing like a real-life success story to inspire belief. It’s proof we can all reach greatness. You just have to take the first step. Then keep going until you reach your goal.

Moving To The Next Level.

Meet Kathy Flaminio. She’s been practicing Live Dynamite since it was just an idea we talked about on our morning runs. Her story is detailed in The Upside Playbook and her vision for 1000 Petals keeps expanding. See how she’s continuing to ignite the passion within others and move to new levels of fulfillment and success.

It’s hard to believe that nearly five years have passed since I attended the first Live Dynamite Circle and started dreaming about creating my own business. As I leap into my second sabbatical this month, I leave my social work position with a great sense of excitement. I can’t wait to discover what more is possible this time. I can practically feel my vision pulling me forward.

If you’d told me one day I’d be touring nationally, training educators on how to integrate yoga and mindfulness activities into the classroom, I wouldn’t have believed it. Nor could I imagine that I would be creating a line of cycling CDs that connect the mind, body and emotions. And yet here I am experiencing how beautifully life unfolds when you are passionate, committed and willing to feel the fear and do it anyway.

I’ve learned a lot about myself on this journey. I’ve experienced how important it is to live what I teach and I work at it every day. I’ve felt the power that comes from going within to find direction and connections. And I know how important it is to surround myself with people who encourage me when the fear takes hold.

My mantra has become “Do the work.” I have a daily practice that fuels me. I practice gratitude and look for the good in each day. I meditate and reflect upon my experiences. And I incorporate cardio and yoga to strengthen my mind and body.

What was at first a process of creation has become part of my foundation.  I now consistently set goals that stretch me and keep me feeling alive. I use the power of visualization to connect to inspired actions.  I give appreciation for all of the people who have cheered me on when doubt creeps in. And I strengthen my courage by reflecting back upon all I’ve accomplished and the help that has divinely surfaced at every turn.

I believe that life is supporting me, not happening to me. I know that everything in my life is here to teach me and that the lessons gained will be invaluable. I’m learning to surf the wave of continuous change and enjoy the ride. And I remain inspired to teach others to live a whole, integrated life.

My hope is that sharing a bit about my journey will inspire you to keep stretching so you can experience what more is possible. We all have gifts and the world needs us to show up fully and share our talents.

Learn more about how 1000 Petals can help you to connect to your own inner wisdom as you integrate your mind, body and emotions through movement. Live outside of Minneapolis area? You can now access Kathy’s inspirational classes through her “IGNITE” cycling CD.

Pure inspiration creates Pure Yoga.

Meet Suzy Schaak. She is genuine, grounded and gifted. She was a key sounding board for the development of Live Dynamite and an early adopter of the practices. See how she brought her vision of owning her own yoga studio to life this spring as she opened Pure Yoga in Stillwater, MN. She now inspires and supports others to create an overall sense of well being and inner strength.

Suzy Schaak, Stillwater MN

My journey began about five years ago when I was at a Christmas party with Maryanne.  She told me about some healing classes that she was going to take and invited me to join her.  We spent a lot of time together in these classes and on our rides to class she shared with me her vision for Live Dynamite.

At the time, I was fairly unclear about my path, but with her guidance, I began to map out a plan for my future. Part of my plan was to attend the Live Dynamite Circles. I then became part of a smaller coaching circle where we continued to practice the principles together.

I feel like the Live Dynamite Circle helped me to organize my thoughts, visions and define my passions: yoga, the healing arts and painting. Over the next year, I did a lot of writing about what I wanted to create in my life and how it would feel once achieved.

Over time, my vision became clearer and I was able to chunk it down into the steps I needed to take to get started. My small group helped me take it a step further. I was held accountable for taking action toward my vision. Throughout the entire process, Maryanne was my biggest cheerleader. She kept encouraging me to see that the changes I was making, even though uncomfortable at times, were good.

The first major change was a move from St. Paul to Stillwater, MN. As soon as I set my roots, I began creating a business plan for a yoga studio. This plan incorporated all of my passions–healing through yoga and art. I spent over a year refining this plan; meeting with entrepreneurs, small business owners, bankers, yoga studio owners, etc. I think I took half the Twin Cities out for coffee.

Finally, in March, I decided that I needed to push myself again and take a big action step. I signed a lease! And on April 19th, 2010, Pure Yoga opened its doors. All of the planning, writing, discussions and visioning has paid off. I am now the owner, instructor and featured artist at my yoga studio. I am surrounded daily by other gifted teachers and extraordinary students who enrich my life in immeasurable ways.

Looking back, I’ve come to realize that creating change is one of the scariest things in life for me.  It’s uncomfortable. I’m still uncomfortable. But I feel alive and involved and constantly challenged. After every yoga class I teach, I feel a sort of high because I am making a difference in people’s lives.

If I didn’t have the skills that I learned from Live Dynamite and the constant encouragement, I’m not sure I would have made these changes in my life.  I am very grateful!

(Learn how to stay rejuvenated at Pure Yoga. There’s nothing like creating a greater sense of well being and flexibility to help you move through life with ease.)

Pedaling Power!

In preparing for a big change (relocating to another country), I knew I wanted to continue experiencing the principles from Live Dynamite. The Upside provides a great framework for growing and expanding in life, and I certainly wasn’t going to let it get packed away in storage with everything else.

So upon settling in Norway, I set out to re-establish a solid daily practice to continue taking action toward my goals. Let’s chunk that down: first, I’d find and reserve 15-20 minutes in the morning to get in the right state of mind and live with meaning.

It didn’t take long. And better yet, it didn’t require resetting the alarm clock. I quickly learned that my morning bicycle commute could bring me much more than a ride to work. It could help me set the tone for the day.

If I were in a car, I’d immediately grab the phone and connect with friends and family. If I were on a bus, I’d people-watch and catch up on the news. The cycling time, however, lets me build positive momentum (even if huffing and puffing up the hillside). Mini achievement already: accepting that there may not be a perfect place or time and going with what works well. Make it easy, right?

And so with waves from the lake lapping against the shore on one side of the path and pine trees whistling on the other, I use the natural surrounding to create a peaceful mind. It’s easy in this environment to pause, push away negative thoughts and instead reel in positive ones, create an attitude of gratitude and Spiral Up for the day.

With every morning ride I become more and more focused on letting calm, positive emotions take over and fuel my growth, rather than letting worry or the list of to-dos run amok. I sense the tranquility, realize the happiness and live in the present. I like this type of expansion.

- Katharine (Former St. Paulite now living in Norway)

Spiraling Up through new experiences.

I’ve committed to having 21 new experiences by 9/1/10 – or something better. I know that this is a great way to stay inspired, live & learn, strengthen the mind and expand my comfort zone. All positives in my book.
It’s been quite fun to just put myself out there again. Here’s a bit on my latest new experience that proves that positive intentions yield positive results.

I’ve long wanted a writer to come and fully experience Live Dynamite and so I set an intention to invite a writer I found inspiring to the spring Circle event. My hope was that they would share their experience with their readers.
I invited Susan Gaines, since I’ve long enjoyed her writing. She’s witty, insightful and fun to read. Turns out, she’s both great writer and a lovely woman. I liked her (and her husband) immediately and was thrilled that she decided to share her Live Dynamite experience in her blog, “Making Dreams Come True.”

I must say, there’s nothing like a positive results to motivate one to create even more new experiences. More to come…
Getting better all the time,

Maryanne, Independence

Passion trumps fear!

deb-website-shot.jpg

Just because you know what to do doesn’t mean it’s always easy to do it. Being a leadership coach certainly does make it easier for me to stay self-aware; but just like everyone else, I feel afraid when I step outside my comfort zone.

For years, I’ve dreamed of writing a book that would bring business leadership principles into the classroom. Having been a teacher, I could easily see how the skills I teach corporate leaders would empower teachers in their work with students.

When I started working with Live Dynamite last year my passion to write this book as reignited. I set a goal to make enough money so that I could take time off and begin writing by 10/09. I did it! But when the time came to actually start writing, a pang of doubt returned.

At my lowest point, I called Maryanne for help. She pointed out that I had been given everything that I had asked for and to expect that same level of support as I wrote the book. As we spoke, I felt a shake across the phone line that snapped me out of my funk. Together, we mapped out a daily practice and I committed to start with a Spiral Up walk as soon as we hung up the phone.

The walk helped me to clear my head and I felt inspired to take action. I asked myself a question I pose to my clients, “If this doesn’t work, what story are you going to tell yourself?” Right then and there I knew it was time to start writing.

I adopted what is now my #1 rule, “No Excuses!” To remain positive, energized and inspired to keep taking action, I made it a habit to Spiral Up and reflect every day. And I found an energetic and honest coaching partner for ongoing support and guidance.

As I stayed focus on my intention, vision and goals, I began to see evidence that I was on track. I started running into former students everywhere. As they’d tell me about the positive impact I’ve had in their lives, I could feel the need to get this book written growing stronger. Hearing their success helped me to see my own. I realized that I had never fully valued the degrees I had earned, my personal and professional experience and my amazing accomplishments.

I am so thrilled to say I’ve completed my book, “The Classroom CEO,” and it’s on it’s way to the publisher. As the marketing phase begins, a little fear of success has crept in once again. I’m so happy I’ve learned this feeling is simply a signal to focus on my intention, fuel my passion and move into action.

My hope is that as you read this you will see what more is possible in your life when you are willing to push through self-doubt, take action and discover your own personal greatness. I am so happy and grateful I’ve chosen to see and live mine. It’s so much fun!

Here’s my “Do Over!”

kidsuperhero.jpg

After 15 years of working at a job I’ve really enjoyed,  I was faced with the decision to move across the country to keep it or “explore new opportunities.” I’m a guy who has always played it safe and done what was expected of me. I’ve been very successful and also see how I’ve lived well within life’s margins by focusing on stability, security and avoiding exposure.

Life has clearly presented me with an opportunity to choose again. The path I’ve been on holds no passion for me any more and so I’ve chosen to “create new opportunities” and figure out how to bring my unique talents into the world through a career filled with meaning. I’ve done a lot of soul searching and learned a great deal about myself.

I’ve felt nearly every emotion in this process–excitement, anxiety, happiness, fear, confidence, doubt–and this is progress, since avoiding emotional experiences had always been my mode. I’m so grateful for what I’ve learned through Live Dynamite over the past three years and that I have a daily practice. It’s made my transition much smoother.

When the doubt kicks in I Spiral Up and get back into a positive mindset that helps me see what more is possible. I read through the vision I’ve created for building a consulting firm. I review my goals and take action towards my plan. And it’s working.

I’ve already landed my first contract and have made more new contacts than I could have imagined. I’ve made alliances with other firms and built a consortium of partners that keeps expanding. As I’ve moved outside my comfort zone, I see how much more is possible and I feel excited again. Most importantly, I’ve reconnected with who I am. I am far more present to life’s experiences. I am learning as I go. And I am excited to live a life that’s successful and filled with meaning.

Part of my daily practice has included reading to stay inspired. I’ve just finished reading “Chop Wood, Carry Water” and wanted to post this closing poem that pretty much sums it all up. It’s by an 81 year old woman who didn’t live as fully as she’d like.

Thank you Live Dynamite. Here’s to creating a happy, meaning-filled life. Now that’s success.

If I Had My Life to Live Over

I’d like to make more mistakes next time. I’d relax, I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I’d have fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I’m one of those people who live sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day Oh, I’ve had my moments, and if I had to do over again, I’d have more of them. In fact, I’d try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. I’ve been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat, and a parachute. If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have.

If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies.

Nadine Stair

Starting with me.

Yes! I’m back to taking care of myself and it feels great. I’m exercising, eating better and living with appreciation every day.

Amazed at how a few changes–changes everything. I’m sticking with it!

I finally did it!

After five years of thinking about writing a book, I finally did it

Five years ago I had a wonderful idea to write a leadership book for classroom teachers. I received positive feedback on the topic from friends, family, and co-workers, but I had a little voice inside my head telling me that I didn’t have time to write the book and no one would probably want to read it anyway.

Two years ago I began working with the tenets of “The Secret” and this past summer I discovered Live Dynamite through EXPERIENCE LIFE magazine. I went to the Live Dynamite website while doing research and began reading about Maryanne and thought to myself, “I would love to talk to her.” I registered for the Live Dynamite “Get good at living!” give-away through EXPERIENCE LIFE and proceeded to forget about it.

One day I opened my e-mail and there was a subject line that said something like, “Live Dynamite. You’ve Won.” I opened the message and found that I had won The Upside Toolkit and chose the one-hour coaching session with Maryanne as my support, since I live in Kentucky. The phone coaching session with Maryanne was wonderful and she has continued to be an incredible source of inspiration and motivation since our phone call this summer.

I had lost a job I loved and started my own consulting business—she helped me to set goals and truly implement the tenets I had previously learned through “The Secret.” Because of my renewed confidence in my abilities and the power of positive energy, I finally began the book I thought of writing five years ago and finished it. My book, “The Classroom CEO,” will be published this spring. Thank you, Maryanne.

–Deborah, Kentucky

Creating a meaning filled life.

I was at a crossroads in my life, happy in my job but wanting to connect my professional and personal life in a more meaningful way. I learned to trust my instincts and take the risk required to move toward my goal.

Not everything has to be figured out before you move forward, you just have to take the first step. So, I am. I’m leaving soon to volunteer for a year in Rwanda, Africa. It will allow me to give back to others, which energizes me, and take the time to figure out how I need to blend my faith and personal passions with my career.

-Jessica, Minneapolis

Making It Happen!

I’ve learned that the the bigger my goals, the more I need a Make It Happen Plan. Not only does creating the plan make me think critically about what I want to do and how I am going to get there, it gives me little milestones so I can celebrate wins along the way.  There is nothing like progress to feed more progress.

Looking at my plans, personally and professionally, helps me prioritize the right work, stay focused and be fully present in everything I do.  Being honest with myself and realistic in my plans makes it even easier to succeed.

I’m doing it!

Nicki, St. Paul

Creating my own support.

I am so thankful that I’ve learned to create the support I need to keep moving forward through Live Dynamite. Life is filled with so many emotional experiences that can pull us down if when we’re not actively creating positive emotions to stay inspired and motivated.

Last night we had a family dinner to celebrate my daughter’s 15th birthday. We had the whole clan–Grammas’, godparents, siblings and cousins. It was wonderful to be together and have my niece join us. She has Cystic Fibrosis and has been in the hospital for over a month. She is such an amazing girl who has endured so much. She is in constant pain and is loosing weight because she is not hungry and when she eats she throws everything up. If she doesn’t get better she will be hospitalized again.

I am so worried, sad and scared. And then there are the other pressures of work, kids in college, finances, etc. I woke up thinking about all of this…and then I thought of the goals I set at the Live Dynamite Circle.
I set a goal to exercise 3 times a week. So this morning I got out of bed and followed through. I went out in the rain and jogged. I prayed and talked to myself and gave thanks. The beautiful leaves were falling on my head. The rain was falling on me. And I felt peace. I felt clarity. I felt strength.

Thank You. This would have never been felt if it wasn’t for your part in helping me get back on track!
Have a Great Day!!
–Katherine, St. Paul

Valuing my strengths and building confidence!

Making connections with people and building relationships has always come fairly easily to me, but it wasn’t until I started the Live Dynamite program that I realized it could also be a significant professional strength. I just assumed that it was one of those things that everyone could do. So instead of focusing on how to build and leverage those strengths, I would instead compare myself to colleagues and feel badly about the things I didn’t do as well. Needless to say, this didn’t exactly boost my confidence.

Through Live Dynamite, I’ve learned how to value my natural strengths and channel them into the work I do with clients and co-workers. I no longer minimize my contributions and, instead, have greater clarity than ever before about the role I can play to move our business forward.

My confidence has never been stronger, and I am regularly energized by this new view of myself and what I contribute.

Ayme, Apple Valley

Spreading positive energy!

On one of our most recent trips to the Live Dynamite barn our team encouraged each other as we gave each other Victory Lap and shared the progress we’d seen in each other.

I got to hear how our CEO really values my positivity and how it energizes the office. That’s when it hit me. This is a strength of mine and there is value in it.

From then I started seeing more and more opportunities to use this talent to encourage others and be the positivity-giver in the office – and in other areas of my life. It is awesome to see the power and value in something that I comes “naturally” to me.

Amy, Minneapolis

Strengthening professionally.

Live Dynamite has allowed me to recognize and embrace my areas of strength and clearly understand how to successfully integrate with my team at work.

The self-reflective nature of the materials and work sessions has made it easier for me to take the time I need to make sure I’m showing up every day as a confident and productive team member.

Jason, St. Paul

Me, consistent? Yes!

I’ve read my personal goals every morning and evening for nearly a month now. And for that act alone, I am taking an enormous victory lap!

Kellie — Minneapolis

Gratitude Is My New Attitude!

Since starting the Live Dynamite work, I have made gratitude part of my daily practice.  When I approach my day with gratitude something powerful happens. Instead of riding an emotional roller coaster, my mood and my approach are much more consistent.

After 30 consecutive day of practicing an attitude of gratitude, I felt more more balanced, more calm and more at peace.  This has helped me be more productive at work and happier in my personal life.

Nicki, St. Paul, MN

Here we go–again.

“Here we go — again.” That’s a phrase I’ve come to loathe in my adult life. I have the ability to move mountains at work, at home and among my friends. I’m an uber reliable go-to gal when things need doing. But I’m so busy moving all those external mountains, I often find ME with both feet stuck in base camp.

I’ve been working the Live Dynamite process consistently for about a year with loads of momentum and results on my external goals. However, I still find myself struggling to consistently put me on my own list, and when my personal foundation gets shaky so does everything else around me. Lack of exercise, sleep, nutrition and time to reflect all rolls up to make me feel drained. “Here I am again,” that little voice in my head was saying.

Rather than continue the downward spiral, I decided to reverse the momentum and spiral up. I dove into my Live Dynamite toolkit and got back on track with ME.

Fast forward a couple weeks, and I’m pleased to say I’m at the top of my own list — getting in my workouts, sleeping and eating well, finding time to meditate and reflect. And generally feeling and being great…at work, at home and with my friends. Today, I have a new take on that tired old phrase.

The lesson for me is that no matter how off track I get, getting going–again! is easy and feels great.

–Lisa, St. Paul

From thinking to doing.

I’ve learned (again) that the faster I move from “thinking” to “doing” the more energy and momentum I feel. There’s nothing like that sense of completion to spur me on.

I’m still watching for the over-thinking and worrying. The fear that it creates becomes practically paralyzing. Using action as an antidote. I’ve put up a post-it note in my office that says, “Take action. Now!” as my daily reminder to keep practicing.

–Jeff, Austin

Putting my family first.

It’s easy to say one thing and do another. But it certainly doesn’t feel very good. For several years I ignored the signals that my relationship with my wife was tanking. Then I started to see how our challenges were impacting our kid’s behavior. I love my kids more than anything and was really sad to acknowledge what was happening. The worse things got, the more clearly I came to see that it was time to live up to the promises I’ve made and turn things around.
After some serious reflection, I made a firm commitment to put my family first and make the personal changes I’d been promising myself I’d do for years. It was time to grow up. Now, I am following through on what I say I will do and I am working to bring the love and laughter back into our home.

It feels so good to put my energy into my family again and live with my priorities in line. Thanks for giving me the structure to think things through and move forward.

– Thomas

Practicing yoga–consistently.

When I joined the Live Dynamite Circles I wrote a goal around getting to a yoga class 3x/week. Today, I realized I’ve been practicing for two years now. Wow!
I’ve never really thought about it and was surprised that it’s been that long. Yoga is now a part of my life.

Lifetime Fitness Triathalon. Done!

RichLast fall, during our second Live Dynamite session, I established a new goal–finishing a triathlon.  I used pictures you had prepared to create a collage and establish a vision for this venture.  Keep in mind that I was a horrible swimmer and didn’t even own a bike!

Well, 2 weeks ago, I finished the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon!  It was a very rewarding experience.  I had previously tried to train for long distance running by using book guides, but always got injured.  This time, I built my own plan to achieve the goal, and it worked!  Thanks for your inspiration!

–Rich, Minneapolis

Right-sizing my goals.

I’m a bit of an over-achiever and I’ve typically enjoyed this aspect of who I am. I like to do things exceptionally well. What I’ve come to see quite clearly, however, is that my tendency to push it to the limit on every front is leaving me feeling depleted and under appreciated. So, I’ve done something I’ve never done before…I’ve down-sized a few of my goals. (Really, not so easy for me!)
Adjusting my expectations in a few areas has given me more breathing room, energy and sanity. Still working hard to avoid the “do it all, brilliantly” trap and live in the “doing less, being more” space…and I’m getting there.

-Rebecca, Minneapolis

Huge personal insight.

As a working mom with five young children, I’ve had a variety of jobs from waitress to office manager. I’ve taken the best jobs I could find that would allow me to be home with my kids, while also helping to support our family. But if I were honest, I’d tell you that I’ve often envied the prestige I associated with women who had careers, offices and titles.

When I recently interviewed for what I thought of as a “professional” position, I started to feel like this could be the job I’d always dreamed of. The firm had a nice reputation, a beautiful environment and the pay was very good. It held all of the allure and status that I’d always secretly longed for. However, during the interview process I found myself feeling very uncomfortable. At first I could not figure out what it was. So, I went back to my Live Dynamite process to Pause & Reflect.

Here’s what dawned on me as I paid attention to what I was feeling and what it all meant. I love being a mom and being home with my kids matters more than anything. It’s what I’ve really always wanted to do…but, somehow I’d gotten sucked into thinking that I was not as valuable if I did not have a career path. If I were to take this “dream” position I would have had to work full-time and lose the flexibility that’s made our home work so well. Mentally I was willing to do this, but emotionally I could feel the discomfort that was building inside of me as I considered really pursuing the position.

As uncomfortable as all of this was, I am so grateful for this experience for it’s forever changed the way I look at my life. I am so happy and satisfied with who I am and the choices I’ve made. I’ve since decided to go back to being a waitress and I’m really enjoying it. I’m a great waitress, making fantastic tips and have the flexibility I need right now. Best of all, I no longer look at women with careers as having something I don’t. I no longer wonder if I took the right path by being a mom. I know with certainty that I am right where I am supposed to be. And I am very happy!

Thank you for helping me to reflect and learn from each experience.

–Erin, St. Paul

Summer Is Fun.

With three boys at home this summer I knew I needed a plan to keep me sane. Usually, by mid-June, I’m counting the days until it’s time to go back to school. I’m happy to say, I’m really enjoying the unstructured time with the kids.
I’ve been working to stay calm and happily manage the chaos that is summer. Each day, I read my goals about using positive language with the kids and Spiraling Up. I start my day with exercise and gratitude. This gets me going and makes it much easier to stop and choose my responses and words more carefully throughout the day.
I have to say…this is working for me. I’m enjoying the summer and it’s starting to feel like an adventure.
–Julie, Eagan

Focused on the future.

I’m consciously moving more of my daily work focus to the company’s future. We’ve confirmed a new brand position — a clear vision for the organization’s future. I’m proactively redirecting work that does not energize me. This frees me up to use my strengths in all the right places. I’ve got a head, heart and daily calendar trained on deepening relationships with current clients and developing relationships with high-potential prospects.

–Lisa, St. Paul

Getting Stronger.

I’ve used Live Dynamite to come to terms with my strengths and weaknesses. I’ve begun to recognize when opportunities arise for me to ‘showcase’ (my strengths) or ‘overcome’ (my weaknesses). The phrase that has helped me each day is “make it easy”.

–Matt, Minneapolis

It’s The Icing On The Cake.

I signed up for my first Live Dynamite Circle almost a year ago! One of the questions asked in the registration materials was, “Do you need a fresh way of looking at things?” That struck me. I had always been a very positive person with a “can do” attitude. It was then I realized I was in need of a jump-start.

All four of my children were now in school. I had successfully started a business with my husband that he is now running. It was time to figure out what I wanted to do in this next phase of my life. Through this journey not a stone has gone unturned. This has really been a journey of self-discovery. My attitude has been readjusted and I am back on track.

I am filled with gratitude. I see everything, both good and bad, as an opportunity for growth. I am curious when opportunities present themselves. I am taking more risks. I am saying “yes” to things even when I don’t know the outcome. I am throwing ideas out there to see what happens. The results are so liberating. And I am encouraged to do more of the same. I am spiraling up!

After my Circle experience, I joined a Live Dynamite group. It has been a great source of support and accountability. And it has kept my Live Dynamite journey alive. I am surrounded by four people with amazing attitudes, a strong desire to succeed, and a desire to see me succeed!

My greatest goal through this process has been to have clarity. Pretty lofty goal I know…but through my journey I have kept asking for clarity. And it is coming! I know I that I needed to value and manage my time better. I am in the process of accomplishing this.

One of my gifts is that I love to listen to people and give feedback and insight. I have always been very curious and gather as much information as I can (I have read every book recommended by Maryanne!) Through the Live Dynamite program I realized that this is something that I enjoy. It’s something I am good at and was naturally doing all the time. The only problem was that I was spending a lot of time doing this–helping individuals and business expand–but never getting paid for it.

I realized that this was something I was passionate about and could build a consulting practice around. I needed to carve out specific blocks of time. I also needed to let people know how much I would be charging….Yikes! I am so happy to share that I have just negotiated my first consulting gig!

The courage, confidence and organization to go for it came from the accountability and feedback I’ve received!

I am forever grateful that I took that first step and signed up for the Live Dynamite Circle. My Live Dynamite group experience has been the icing on the cake!

A Source of Energy!

I attended a Live Dynamite Circle last winter/spring and then formed a group with several people from the session. At first we had a few too many people, but then it naturally transitioned to be just three of us, which is working really well.

Each of us is able to share our stories and be heard. It is hard to believe that less than a year ago I didn’t even know these people and now they are such an important part of my life. I think that we are able to give each other a fresh and unbiased perspective that is different from what you might get from family and long-time friends. Each of us has achieved some pretty significant goals. And I like that our group is about more than just careers. We help each other with lots of things like exercise, nutrition, dreams, family, as well as job stuff.

At first I was concerned about squeezing in one more thing into my life. But my Live Dynamite group is now one of my favorite things to look forward to, and I am achieving more in my life now than before I was “squeezing” it in.

I really think we are all on this earth to help each other and sometimes you just need to take a more organized approach to it. My Live Dynamite group is a source of energy, inspiration, and comfort.

Attitude Check.

I’m getting a handle on creating a positive attitude, daily. I’m exercising and mentally rehearsing my day while I run. I’ve been experiencing that how I perceive the world is the way the world perceives me. And when I’m feeling great, life is so much better. My attitude toward everything…has been everything! Thanks for getting me back on track.
–James, Minneapolis

Positive reminders.

I wanted to let you know that I’ve just put The Nudge idea into action. You suggested putting up visual reminders that reinforce our daily practice and goals. I’ve working on building a positive culture for my team. And lately my attitude has been pretty up/down. I know it impacts the whole mood in our office and this is not how I want to lead.
So, I’ve just put up a picture that my daughter painted of me on my office door. I can see it from my desk and it makes me smile (I have on a purple suit, red shoes and jet black hair). It’s helping me to focus on what matters most and to stop taking myself so seriously. I’ve noticed a positive change in me…and those I infect with my attitude.

Things are moving in the right direction again.
–Bob, Minneapolis

Small changes, big impact.

Over the past several months I’ve been going through the Playbook and writing in my daily log (pretty consistently). I’ve found that setting smaller goals and making daily changes has been the approach that works best for me. I tend to feel overwhelmed by big goals and so I started by setting smaller goals.

I set my first goal in your workshop–it was to Spiral Up every day with gratitude and exercise. I am feeling happier, calmer and more patient. Some days I only have 15 minutes, but I’ll still get out and walk and look for things to appreciate. I’m committed to sticking with it.
I’m now working on using more positive language. Thanks for helping me get out of my rut.
–Deborah, Caimbridge

Confidence building!

I’ve always felt pretty strong and capable, but in the past few years life has started to feel a bit overwhelming. I’d started to feel like I couldn’t keep up with the pace and demands of my life…working full-time, being a mom, wife, daughter and sister. What happened to having a life that was about more than meeting daily responsibilities?

I was introduced to Live Dynamite last fall, when the program was brought into our office. At first I thought it was going to be just one more thing I’d be expected to do at a time I wasn’t looking for more of anything. I have to say the session was really energizing and I wanted to give it a go, even though the idea of finding time in my day for me still felt quite challenging.

Thankfully, our team committed to following the Live Dynamite practices and I ended up in a Circle of Advisors. It’s been eight months now and I’m feeling strong again. It’s sometimes hard for me to see the progress I’ve made, but stepping back now I can see how bit by bit my confidence has returned. It was through small steps and gradual shifts that I got back to productive habits. The three that have made a huge difference for me are gratitude, exercising and making prioritized lists. I do the best I can each day and keep on keepin’ on.
There are still times I feel the need to take a deep breath and that’s just what I do. I put things in perspective and remember this too shall pass.

Positive Parenting!

I sat next to Live Dynamite (Maryanne) on a plane ride yesterday. I was returning from a business retreat where we’d had a motivational speaker. I’d been thinking about how to apply the ideas I’d learned around living positively with my family and Maryanne shared her thoughts, ideas and insights with me for 3 hours. We talked about the power of positive language and how to reframe statements to avoid using “can’t” and “don’t” when parenting.
One of the first things I did when I got home was to tell my 3 kids that we were going to play a game. We weren’t going to say the words “can’t” and “don’t” anymore. From now on, when they hear me say those words, they need to “bzzz” me and I will “bzzz” them when they say “can’t” or “don’t.”

I think that it’s a great way to turn everything a little more positive. I’m excited to use more of what she shared regarding setting and attaining goals, and defining and achieving success in my everyday life, too. I’m looking forward to receiving your newsletter. Thanks so much for sharing with me.

It’s working.

I’m just finishing week 3 of the Live Dynamite Toolkit and already amazing things have happened.  I’m a business owner, and after having a dry spell, I’ve booked two new client projects and a prospective speaking engagement in these past 3 weeks.  And it wasn’t hard to get any of these things, they came easily: one was a follow up with someone who had expressed interest a few months ago, and the other two came out of the blue. I’m following the Live Dynamite instructions to the letter so far. It’s been fun. Can’t wait to see what my life looks like at week 12!

Bringing our vision to life.

Women have been making strides in the world of financial services for decades now. We’re seeing more and more women assume leadership roles as they help companies and individuals create solid financial plans for their futures. At Thrivent Financial our vision includes creating more opportunities for women. To that end, we’ve created diversity initiatives and programs that help and encourage women to keep reaching for more of their potential.
We held our first national event in October at the Women In Financial Services annual convention. We were sponsoring the event and wanted to find a way to support the women who were willing to invest in themselves by attending. It was important that we create community with genuine connections that help our women grow. Two of our core values are community and growth and they are very important at Thrivent Financial. Given the tough economic climate, we also wanted to make sure our event was inspiring, energizing and gave our members ideas they could put into practice once they were back home. Enter Live Dynamite.
We worked closely with Live Dynamite to create an amazing program for our team. Maryanne helped us with everything from promotional materials to rich program content. We developed a 90-minute work session where positive ideas were put right into action. It was easy to see people were engaged and felt lifted by the experience. We had a great turn out and have heard really positive feedback.
One of our goals was to ensure that our members felt a sense of connection and support post event as well. Many of our financial representatives work independently, and we wanted to find a way to help them stay inspired as they reach their goals. So we developed a Thrivent Financial Circle of Advisors program, powered by Live Dynamite. We announced it at the event and now have 39 members signed up for the program. We kicked off our first teleseminar in November to sustain the positive energy and excitement. It focused on living with gratitude and appreciating how much we have in our lives. We have four more planned and the buzz keeps growing.
It’s inspiring to see how willing people are to invest in themselves. As we watch the numbers in our program continue to grow, we can feel the power of genuine community coming to life in new ways. We’re very excited about our women’s Circle of Advisor’s program and the potential it holds. And we’re very grateful to Live Dynamite for helping us to expand and accelerate our momentum.
—Michele Durkin, Thrivent Financial

Loving the daily log…now.

I have never been one to keep a journal or diary. So, when I got my Live Dynamite daily log I just kind of skipped over it. I told myself, “That’s not for me. I’m sure I can get by without it. I’ll focus on the other steps.”

It wasn’t until I joined a Circle of Advisors that I’d even thought about it again. As we all made our commitment to really work the complete program, I promised the group that I would try to start using the daily log. Then, I went home and tried it.

Here’s what I never expected…it’s now one of my favorite tools. It happened during the first 5 minutes I spent with it. I was writing down the insights I had gained from my day’s highlights. I found myself having big realizations. I started to see my patterns, what kept me spinning my wheels and not making progress.

The daily log has (gasp…I can’t believe I’m saying this, but…) actually become something I look forward to. It’s provided me with deep insights into me–my habits, responses and attitudes. The highlights help me stay positive and see that a bad moment does not have to make for a bad day. I now look for Highlights throughout my day. My highlights tend to be normal daily happenings that I used to take for granted. It brings me joy every day! And the insights have made my progress toward my goals more meaningful.

Who knew? Well, I guess Live Dynamite.
–Erin, St. Paul

Reflect and learn.

Live Dynamite allowed me to reflect on myself and reconnect with what was driving my values and beliefs. I was able to look back on my past and see what’s driving my behaviors and thoughts today. Seeing this has allowed me to make positive choices going forward.
I also learned about the energy surrounding the Law of Attraction, how the energy I emit is directly invested back in me! I’ve learned that what I put out into the world is directly returned. I now make my energy and emotions positive, as it reverberates around me. It gives me, and others, the positive vibes we need in the world today.

–Lonnie, Rosemount

Spiral Up. It’s my mantra.

I recently participated in the Live Dynamite Circles and have embraced the Playbook as my “guide to living better.” I have to admit that when I first heard of the concept “Spiral Up,” I thought it was just a clever way to say, “Positive begets Positive.”

I wanted to take a Victory Lap because I was never before so mindful of how valuable and effective this concept of “Spiraling Up” really is. Every day, I encounter people that are spiraling down. Before, it had the power to pull me down too. Now, I engage my Spiral Up techniques and I displace negative energy with positive energy.

I’ve even had people stop their negativity mid-rant to ask me what I just did to make them want to stop. I tell them that they have a choice: “Spiral Up or Spiral Down.” Up is so much better!

Every single day I Spiral Up and have the chance to help spiral others up. My mother-in-law, who lost her husband and dog, has every reason to be depressed. However, now she, too, embraces the concept of Spiral Up and has the phrase posted in every room to remind her she has a choice.

Never before have we needed to help each other Spiral Up more than we do now. Thank you, Maryanne, for helping me to understand, experience and live the Spiral Up philosophy. And thank you for helping me to get good at living!

Experiencing the power of gratitude.

In 2008, I learned the power of gratitude. After attending a Live Dynamite Circle, I was really impressed with how a focus on gratitude gets everything going in the right direction. And how it makes the bumps in the road seem a lot smaller.

Raising three children has become an exciting adventure, rather than a struggle. I am now grateful for the endlessly fresh perspective on life my kids offer me; I am truly grateful for the opportunity the questions they ask give me to connect with them. When they dig their heels in, as the inevitable conflicts arise, I am grateful for the strength of their character. And I am grateful for my own patience in dealing with problems. When they enjoy something I have provided, I know their appreciation is totally authentic. It doesn’t get much better that that!

Gratitude has made parenting a richer, more meaningful experience for me. Once you reflect a little, it’s amazing how much gratitude can support you. Much of what we can appreciate is available to many people. For example, living in the USA is an opportunity that people around the world seek. We can be thankful for systems of government that function smoothly, the opportunity to express our opinions freely, and abundant public resources like parks and libraries. The current economic climate is troubling, but I remain grateful that our nation has the tools and skills to right the ship. It may take a little time, but I believe it will happen.

Try focusing your mind on gratitude, even if you have only a few minutes each day. In almost any situation, I enjoy asking myself what I can appreciate. I have noticed that the change in my thinking feeds on itself. I love the momentum I have created.

Transformation one step at a time.

I was making a career transition when I was invited to participate in the Live Dynamite Circles. After the first Circle, I resigned my position as Director of Product Development and decided to become a Transformational Mediator. By the time we met for our third Circle, I had created my new website and began my career shift in earnest. The Circles gave me the extra fortitude to transition with ease and confidence. The tools have been a great reminder that all great things are accomplished one task at a time, one relationship at a time and one breath at a time. I’m jazzed about my new adventure and excited to share it with the world!

Or something better!

img_0156_2.JPG

Every year Mike and I set a goal to run at least one 1/2 marathon. For us, it’s the perfect distance. It pushes us to train and run further than we’d typically go. The challenge this year has been that the organized races didn’t sync up with our schedules. Rather than bail on our goal, we decided to create our own 1/2 marathon with the help of our Nike Nano and Baker Park.
Here’s the goal I set in July, “I am easily and happily running a 1/2 marathon with Mike, averaging 8:30/miles, on 10/11/08–or something better. Taking it in strides!”

It was such a beautiful morning that we decided to just do it. We ran the 1/2 marathon in 1:51.01 (averaging 8:28/mile). I’m now enjoying a moment on my couch taking a Victory Lap, savoring that I completed my goal, marveling at how Rob Rankin ran a marathon (his story) and sending positive vibes to everyone who will run the Twin Cities marathon next weekend.

Here’s to setting physical goals that stretch and energize you…and to all of the possibilities that “or something better” brings to life.
Never been better!

Something New & Different.

Lisa at New York Stationary ShowI attended the first Live Dynamite Circle in February 2007. I had just started a 9-week sabbatical from my job, which was in many ways a trial run at a new career. After 13 years at a Fortune 100 company with a great job, I was looking for something else in my life but was stepping carefully into this new world.

As a 20-year veteran of the software world, I had become accustomed to constant challenges. I had experienced first-hand the transition to PCs in the workplace and the explosion of the Internet. And yet, I found myself at a company which no longer provided the same career challenges.

This led me to follow an idea toward a new career that literally came to me in a dream. I have had the opportunity to test the waters of owning my own small business and doing something completely different–creating a line of novelty cards. The time off gave me the opportunity to explore this new direction in my life without leaving my current job.

The feeling of freedom and excitement carried me easily through my sabbatical. I took classes on graphic design and writing. I got involved in my children’s school. And I tested my skills at being a designer and manufacturer of novelty cards. It was amazing. The Live Dynamite Circle and materials supported me in truly believing that I could do this, “for real,” if I wanted to. I joined a Circle of Advisors in the spring to create an important network of support with like-minded people.

In September, when I decided to turn my sabbatical and dream into real life, the Live Dynamite materials became critical to my success. On the first day of my new career, I was sitting with an empty calendar, a computer and a lot of big ideas…but nothing concrete to do. It all felt overwhelming to me. I started to wonder if I had done the right thing.

I took out my Live Dynamite materials and re-read the book cover to cover. I wrote down my intentions and the things for which I was grateful. I created a draft vision for my new life. I wrote down a list of goals and refined and refined them, until I wrote them on my circular Expand and Create cards. I created a vision board and started reflecting in my journal everyday. Finally, I wrote down a list of concrete actions and milestones. I was off and running!

Live Dynamite gave structure to my days and a focus to my tasks. I have never looked back. I know that I am doing the right thing with my life.

It’s now been eight months since I struck out on my own. I have achieved my first big milestone. I successfully launched my new company and launched my Openers™ brand of products at the National Stationery Show in New York. With a 10×10 booth, scaled-models of my products and two great friends at my side, I watched people enter my booth with interest and excitement. I took orders for my products and also made amazing contacts with people from big and small companies who will be critical to taking my business to the next level. I had accomplished the goal that I wrote down and envisioned in September. The support of my Circle of Advisors and the tools Live Dynamite gave me were so critical in getting me to this point. I saw this phrase the other day which sums up it up for me:

“Great big dreams require great big thoughts and little tiny steps.”

Lisa at New York Stationary Show

Dream it. Say it. Create it. Repeat.

bernie.JPGLive Dynamite is changing my life in so many ways. As someone who was in the throes of a midlife crisis, I was spinning my wheels and feeling like I was getting nowhere. Along came Maryanne, who encouraged me to dream big and dream out loud about the things that really mattered to me.

Within weeks, many of my “Someday-I’ll-Do-This-or-That” pursuits became actualized in the here and now: I had always dreamed of playing keyboards and singing in a band–Now I’m in a band called Spider Hole. I wanted to learn how to improvise and play jazz/blues on the piano–Now I’m taking lessons and doing just that. I wanted to be invited to serve on the editorial board of a high-profile academic journal–Now I’m on the editorial board of a high-profile academic journal. I wanted to lose 20 pounds–I lost 20 pounds. I wanted to be more patient with my three young children–Now I’m more patient with my kids. I wanted to run another marathon–Now I’m training for another marathon. I wanted to mend a broken relationship with a close family member–Now we’re talking and moving forward again.

I could go on, but you get the idea (and I hope I don’t sound like I’m bragging). The point is that Live Dynamite + Commitment = Success. Just about everyone’s got something they’re looking to improve, whether it’s being a better leader at work, incorporating exercise into a daily routine, or taking the risk of doing something you’ve secretly always wished you could do but never had the courage to try it.

Maryanne has developed a phenomenal set of tools to help enhance anyone’s life, regardless of age, intellectual ability, or socio-economic status. Also, as a professor, I’ve come to believe this program should be adapted as a required course for all college freshmen. What better way to help students discover their passions and decide where they’d like to go in life? With the popularity of “The Secret” and Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth,” the personal development industry seems very trendy these days. But I say, if awakening people to realizing their absolute highest potential in life has become “trendy,” then so be it. Everyone should be so fortunate.

Bravo, Maryanne!

Prioritizing what matters most.

swen-daughter.jpgEveryone says, “Your kids will grow up and be gone before you know it. Make sure you’re there creating memories you’ll cherish.” You hear it all the time. In the past year it hit home. I have two little girls (ages 4 and 2) and a fabulous wife. I love my family more than anything. And, like everyone, I have responsibilities that can pull me away too often if I’m not paying attention.

I have a great job that I enjoy. It requires a fair bit of travel. And lately business has been especially challenging. It would be easy to lose myself in my work and let my family fall through the cracks. Thankfully, I’ve created goals that keep me focused on my priorities.

I first experienced Live Dynamite at a company retreat. The Playbook exercises got me back into the habit of evaluating and creating what I wanted in life. I took a close look what was working and what wasn’t. One of my concerns that surfaced was that I was losing my connection to my oldest daughter, Karina. I had been working quite a bit and the addition of our second daughter made it even harder to find one-on-one time. Karina and I had gotten to a point where she didn’t really want to talk to me–or spend time with me.

So, I decided to change all that. I wrote a goal that put Karina front and center in my life. It read, “I am bonded with Karina now that I am sharing my love of adventure during our first outing together in MN this winter–or something better.”

Mission accomplished. We went to St. Paul this past winter and spent the weekend together. Just the two of us. We went to the Children’s Museum. We went to the Mall of America. We went out for dinner. It was one of those super bonding times that we’ll both remember forever.

I’m happy to report that we’ve reconnected. She constantly talks about our weekend trip. It meant a tremendous amount to her. I could see that she could feel how special she is to me. Now she wants to go away with me again. She keeps saying, “Papa, maybe we should go for a date. Just the two of us.” She’s jazzed and I feel great. I love seeing her share my sense of adventure.

I am so grateful for Live Dynamite. The ideas got me to set a goal I might not otherwise have done. It got me to actually write down what mattered. I then made the commitment and took action. It’s really helped me stay on track. I’ve become more organized. And I have a new level of focus that’s making a huge difference in my life.
What’s next? Karina has her sights set on a trip to DC. Stay tuned. I’m determined to keep this level of focus, energy and motivation and live what I value.

Two Victory Laps.

Great things came out of my Live Dynamite Circle.

1. A daily practice is a great new habit. In less than 10 minutes each day I focus on what will help me reach my goal, I reflect more and I take action towards my goals. I’ve also been smiling more which really makes a difference.

2. My golf game improved 15 strokes! I decided to play with positive
people and I notice a difference in my game. It’s true that you are a
combination of the five people you spend the most time with and on the golf course it’s no different.

Thanks for all the great new habits.

My business plan is on paper!

I had written a book, “Take The Cold Out Of Cold Calling.”   I had done all the work to get it printed and yet I wasn’t setting a date for launch or goals to reach. Live Dynamite pushed me over the hump to get my marketing plan down on paper with a deadline, March 31, 2008. I did it and now I’ve been focused and successful at getting the work done. I’m in the flow and using all my resources and other people’s resources more effectively to get the work done. I’ve even had two articles printed on my book that were in my plan. It’s true what they say, “You’re 8 times more likely to do something you write down.” It’s all about committing and taking action.

Take The Cold Out of Cold Calling

Bring it on!

Thank you for our Live Dynamite Circle this week. I have to say that a lot of positive things have happened to me since that class and I am so pumped!

I have always had a real hard time with the last minute requests here at work and today wrote on a motivational card and taped it to my computer. It says “I am energized and challenged by last minute requests and find satisfaction and pride in being able to complete the request and rise to the occasion. Bring it on!”

This has helped immensely! I no longer give the last minute requester a death glare but now greet them with a smile!

I also had written a goal on communicating more with my daughter. I then went out and bought a book called “When the Breast Fairy Comes” (I know… funny name for a book) but the first few chapters that I read that evening while I was in the car waiting for her to be done with dance class were about communication. This book gave me some ideas on how to approach the subject as well as how to begin the communication process. When she got in the car after dance I apologized for not listening to her very well in the past and went on to tell her how I was going to change that and how important our relationship is to me.

She then talked to me the whole way home (a 15 minute drive). She then continued talking the remainder of the evening and told my husband “Mom said she was going to start listening to me better.”

I handled an email with this positive attitude this morning as well. The author of the email came across a bit “harsh” and my first response was to let him have it but, I refrained and was very polite in my response and thanked him for all he does and wished him a wonderful day. He then returned my email and apologized and was very nice. :)

And the best for last…while eating my tomato bisque soup for lunch today, I scooped up a spoonful and saw a smiley face! There were literally two eyes, a nose and a mouth made from tomato pieces in my spoon!

Just wanted to send a note on how well the Circle has helped me thus far
and, it is only Thursday!

Thank you!

It just keeps getting better!

Hi Guys,

Okay, more success to report. I wrote a new affirmation around my real estate business 3.5 weeks ago and began saying it out loud daily. It’s around letting my business grow easily through referrals, expanding sales and attractive decisive buyers. My snappy tagline is “Expanding by leaps and bounds.”

The first weekend I got started I met a couple whose house I am listing. I am also helping them buy. Since then, I have received a referral from my company (Coldwell Banker Burnet) for an out of town buyer. On top of that, my clients who have been getting their home ready for some time now are now ready to list. An agent in my office has asked me to co-list a property with him. And I met up with a past client the other night and am now listing her friend’s property tonight. I will also be helping them buy a place, too.
Life is good!

I’m back!

I received a Live Dynamite toolkit about a year ago for my birthday from Maryanne. (She is my sister, best friend and most loyal supporter). She’s the person who calls me if I don’t “show up” for a period of time on her radar screen. Although I procrastinated even opening the box, I always knew that what she was saying was true…when we create positive habits, the results show up. I’ve heard her say it and yet, I still resisted experiencing my own power.
As the year began I decided I’d had enough of staying where I was at. I was ready and willing to really give these ideas a try.

I started with using the “daily log” and entering my “Highlights and Insights.” This in itself was a good thing for it forced me to look at what was going on in my life daily and helped me to accentuate the positive! I first started the process in May 2007 and then lapsed until Jan 7, 2008 when I began again in earnest to log my daily events. Maryanne again encouraged and literally helped me refine my intentions down to more specific goals. She suggested I try saying them for 30 days with the beginning of the new moon cycle (that whole subconscious mind thing).

This time I listened and followed her advice as closely and as diligently as I could for the next 30 days. I pulled out my Expand & Create cards (the round ones) from my Live Dynamite kit and began writing down my goals. One of my goals was to get a new job. Specifically, “I am joyfully making a phenomenal living ($100,000) doing what I love and am passionate about by 12.31.08–or something better!”

I have been teaching in the Northeast Bronx at a very difficult Middle School for 6 years. Yesterday, February 8th, I was offered a new teaching position, that I will commence in 2 weeks at a grade school in Harlem. I am very excited to make this important job change. I was literally burning out my health and well being at my present school. So I am on my way to joyfully achieving my career goal in incredible high speed!

Another goal that’s come to life…“I am lovingly sharing myself in an intimate relationship that’s based on honesty, integrity, clarity, openness by March 1st, 2008–or something better!” I have been a single mother for the last 8 years. Since intending this, I have been developing a deepening friendship with a wonderful man that I met about 8 weeks ago. Through allowing myself to open up to get know this man, I feel as though I have fallen back in love with myself and with “love” itself. I am enjoying this new friendship and perhaps more importantly enjoying the new level of contact with “myself” that I had been longing to have.

I have discovered that by taking care of myself first it possible for me to open up to everything else that the universe holds for me. I am feeling so affirmed by this new relationship with myself and with my new friend. I feel a new level of trust and willingness opening up in me. It is very healing, fun and inspiring.

Life just keeps getting better now that I’m back on track. I have started seriously taking care of myself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I’ve lost weight, improved my health and am thrilled to report that “I’m am making my first CD of healing and heartwarming music to be released by August 15th, 2008–or something better.” I am a jazz pianist and singer and it has long been a dream of mine to record a CD. I will let you know when it is finished!!!
I feel more alive and excited than I have in decades. This is not to say that I don’t go through “stuff” like we all do. In fact, I probably have more “stuff” than ever. The difference is that now I am more of a conscious co-creator of my life. I feel very excited to see what I will create next as I don’t want to waste another single moment of my precious and fun life.

Thanks for letting me share my story. And thanks again, Maryanne, for never giving up on me. I hope my story may inspire others to believe in their power to create the life they want–and to go for their biggest, wildest dreams…or something better!

Expecting great things!!!

Best Group Yet!

I’ve been in other groups before to hold myself accountable or focus on my goals, but my Live Dynamite group is different.  Instead of just my business life or my financial goals as the focus, I am working on the big picture balance. Every month that we meet I am reminded of how all the pieces of my life fit together.  It’s been a gift for me to stay focused on all aspects of my life and to stay balanced.  It’s by far the most worthwhile investment of my time and effort to date.

Clarity at last!

After my Circle experience, I joined a Playbook Club (PBC). It has been a great source of support and accountability. And it has kept my Live Dynamite journey alive. I am surrounded by four people with amazing attitudes, a strong desire to succeed, and a desire to see me succeed, too!

The courage, confidence and organization to go for it came from the accountability and feedback I’ve received from my Playbook Club!

I am forever grateful that I took that first step and signed up for the Live Dynamite Circle. My COA experience has been the icing on the cake!

Staying inspired.

Who knew five strangers could connect around something so important? Live Dynamite knew and our group was up for the challenge. A challenge of pushing ourselves to achieve the success we desired.

My Live Dynamite group is made of 5 people connected by the desire to be more successful…in all of the many ways we’ve defined success. Over the last 10 months I’ve been connecting with the same crew I met at the first Live Dynamite Circle in Minneapolis–where all our inspiration sparked. Each month we get together, usually over lunch, to continue our conversation. We talk about our goals, the actions we’re taking, things we may have been avoiding, and keeping the momentum going.

This is where our sparks have set blaze. We’ve used the tools to continue the conversations and focus on achieving results and actions. The conversations are great. The accountability I feel with the group is even better! My Live Dynamite group is another great way to continue what I started back on a cold day last February. Plus, it’s a great group to be able to share my successes with and revel in others’ wins as well.

More success to share.

Okay, I’ve got another success story to share. I’m on fire. As I set goals and accomplish them, I’m blown away at how far I’ve come. I am so grateful and proud of the results I’ve achieved. And so I’m sharing my experiences with you.

In the past year I’ve accomplished huge goals and pushed through barriers that used to hold me back. Here’s just a snapshot of how far I’ve come. First, I’ve recovered from the Vertigo that was spinning my life around (literally).

Next, I have consistently made health, nutrition and exercise a priority and it shows. I’ve lost 30 pounds and 13+ inches. I now exercise 5x week and have made it a habit (a key ingredient in getting Vertigo to leave my body).

I created a vision board around my health goal, which was really inspiring. One of the quotes I put on it is, “Wow, you look amazing. Get used to hearing that.” And guess what…my friends and family have been telling me I look “amazing.”

Then a person I didn’t know approached me at LifeTime (my gym) and told me I looked “amazing.” I was so taken aback by it. When I got home the first thing I saw was my vision board, with the “amazing” quote on it. That’s when it fully hit me – this stuff really works! What I think about, how it makes me feel, and the energy I bring to my visualizations truly lets me to create my life the way I want it to be.

Live Dynamite has given me the tools. And I’ve done the work. I’m entering the New Year with a positive attitude and more energy and enthusiasm than ever before. I know 2008 will be “amazing” because I now look for and expect the best!

In the zone.

I have gone through the Live Dynamite Circles twice now. During my second time, though, the ideas really sunk in for me.

I am an artist–a painter. And I set a stretch goal this time stating that I would have enough pieces completed to have my first show by May 2008. I am on my way. I just completed my third piece in a series since we met in early October. I feel like I am in the zone. And I am very enthusiastic about what I am creating.

Many thanks to Maryanne for all of her support!

Perfect Vision.

I want to thank the Live Dynamite team for giving me the nudge to live life to its fullest again. It’s not easy stopping and reflecting on one’s life and deciding what actions to take next. Way too often I would stop myself from making a change, even though I knew it would help me grow and be better at my life.
I’ve been playing it safe for the past decade. At my first Circle in February someone said a phrase I can’t get out of my mind, “If you’re coasting, you’re going down hill.” That hit home.
Live Dynamite has given me a new mindset and perspective through gratitude and attitude. I’m using the Upside tools to set goals, take action, and believe in myself. I have accomplished some significant goals in my professional and personal life in the short period since understanding the Upside ideas. The one I want to share is how I moved a long-time fear of mine around.
I have had glasses since I was able to read. Dealing with the glasses and contact lenses was a daily routine. Logically, I knew having Lasik would improve my quality of life, but I always found excuses to put it off. Mostly, I was scared. I created “What if…” lists in my head of all that could go wrong.
At the Circle session I decided I was going to move through this fear. I wrote a goal card about having Lasik surgery by May 31, 2007–or something better! I read the card each night before going to bed and first thing in the morning–visualizing and feeling how good it was going to feel to see perfectly.
It was like my goal became a magnet for all that I needed to take action. I started to meet people who gave me confidence in the procedure. I got a name of a good doctor. I took more action and read articles about the pros and cons. I’m sure they were there before, but I missed them. Once I set the goal and focused my energy, everything I needed showed up. And I made it happen.
Well, I had the surgery on June 1, 2007 (the doctor didn’t operate on May 31st). I’m happy to announce I’m seeing 20/15, better than perfect.
Again, thank you for nudging me forward to clear vision, and a future I look forward to. The Upside is truly magical. I’m living fully again, with a great big smile.

Mike, Minneapolis

Reconnecting with my teenagers!

How natural can it be for teenagers to want to put some distance between themselves and their parents? I’m a single father to two of these creatures. Their younger sister lives with their mom and I miss her every day. Like most teens–I imagine–my older daughter and her brother are hard-wired to seek and highlight as many differences between themselves and me as they possibly can. It’s no wonder these years are considered challenging to so many parents.

I’m always looking for opportunities to connect with these two: over dinner, in the car, on a trip. It feels like chasing butterflies. When I came across Live Dynamite and the Upside, I could see immediately its value to me personally.

I’ve always felt that I have more to bring to the world than I’m bringing, and I guess I’m finally at a point in my life that I don’t want to put it off anymore. Live Dynamite gives me what I need–the vocabulary, structure, encouragement to actually evolve, and to participate more fully, productively and happily in my own life and in the lives of those I care most about.

I understand it’s a journey, and that I can’t know for certain how things will work out, but that realization is now more of an enticement than a scary barrier.

After starting to work with the Live Dynamite tools, it didn’t take long for me to realize that hey, my two teenagers and I are in the same boat! This is something we have in common, this notion that we have important things to do, even if we don’t always know what they are. They’re full of dreams, and so am I, and there’s no reason not to pursue them right away.

They each have the Upside kit now. What the Live Dynamite materials give us is a common ground to explore our very different strengths and dreams. There’s something simple and beautiful for all three of us to realize that we can be different in content and similar in purpose, that purpose being to make the most of ourselves and our lives.

My daughter has really embraced the Upside ideas. She works at it, in the same she works at everything she takes on, intensely. I’m amazed and so proud of her. My son has been more reluctant, but I can tell he’s curious, and it’s easier for him to talk about what he wants out of his life. My own experience tells me both of them will change their minds frequently about a lot of things, and over time they’ll learn things work out the way they’re supposed to even when it doesn’t feel like it. I’m just glad they have some tools to help them make sense of things and keep their eyes on the prizes that undoubtedly await them.

By working through these ideas together, it’s become easier to see that the things that distinguish us from each other can–at least occasionally–be appreciated rather than…wielded. Live Dynamite has put a positive, productive spin on things. Sometimes now, it feels like the butterflies are chasing after me.

Fit (again) at 40!

When I met Maryanne, I considered myself a pretty positive person, but holy cow! She is what I would call inspiringly positive.

My life is pretty abundant, I must say. A lovely wife, four phenomenal children, friends and family that share my life with me, and a job that I like and I’m good at. So, it was easy to become complacent. Spending some time with Maryanne reminded me of the overwhelming abundance I am blessed with, and more importantly, how important it is to be thankful and have gratitude for it all.

Before I’d seen the Live Dynamite orange “Expand & Create” goal cards, I’d taped a loop of orange electrical tape around the steering wheel of my car (kind of like those colored rubber bracelets) and written TYG with a sharpie on it. Everytime I sit in my car I get a chance to see that orange and remind myself of what it stands for, “Thank You, God.”

I’ve always been athletic, but after gaining “sympathy” weight with my wife for four pregnancies, my nearly 40-year-old body had gotten used to carrying around 35+ pounds of extra weight. If there was anything in my life I was unhappy with, it was my body. I set a goal to achieve my ideal weight within a year. I began paying better attention to what was going into my body and I started working out at the gym every morning. I found that I immediately felt great about myself. First it was just about “doing it.” Then I began to see results. And as my body became lighter and stronger, I could feel a bounce in my step.

Starting the work day with a good workout left me feeling energized all day long. I was smiling, more patient, and more productive than ever. My goal weight is now only 6 pounds away, and I have one last month before my goal date. I know I will get there.

Today I did something in the gym I’d been working on with my personal trainer that I’d failed at about 100 times. We’d set a strength goal 6 months ago. I knew it was my goal, but never thought I’d be strong enough to do it. This morning it happened. I achieved it!

My “expand and create” card sits taped alongside my computer screen, with the weight and now 30 days to go. I cannot “weight” to get there! Now I am grateful for my health too. Just goes to show you, complacency is easy. Setting a goal and getting there is hard, but oh my, the pleasure, the happiness, the giddyness of reaching a goal–there isn’t much better.

With this momentum, I need a new goal. A new thing to make happen. Because the joy isn’t just in arriving at the destination–it’s in the journey. Thanks, Maryanne, for being you, and for inspiring me.

Achieving goals subconsciously!

I was invited to join a Live Dynamite Circle in April, 2007. There, I had written some immediate goals on the expand & create cards, as well as some stretch and long-term goals. (I look forward to sharing those successes when the time comes!)

I quickly achieved one immediate goal, which was to paint and clean up my basement. Done.

I just shuffled through the cards again today and realized that I’ve accomplished others. I took what was once a weed patch and turned it into a perennial garden. I even won a local “garden alley award!” Every time my nieghbors would see me working, I would say, “I just want to win that award,” and I did!!! I had totally forgotten about writing that goal down!! I am so inspired, I’m going to keep on checking things off of my upside list!!

Hitting my goals and reaching for more!

fred-002.jpg

When I heard about Live Dynamite I must say I was a bit cynical about it all. I’d done goal setting in the past. I knew this stuff. But I had to admit it had been a while since I’d been practicing it.

I went to a LD Circle in February and was surprised by how inspired I was to be surrounded by positive people. Looking back I can see that my attitude had spiraled down and this was just what I needed.

I’m grateful that I’ve met people who have remindined me to feel grateful. And who have pushed me to achieve more again.

The Live Dynamite team challenged me to get the Sales Person of the Quarter parking spot. They believed I could do it and I could tell they wanted to see me win. And look–they were right!

I’m setting big goals again. My sales goal for 2007 is $3MM (I sold $2.5MM in 2006, so this is a stretch for me). At the end of May, I was over half way to my goal for this year. I’ve already set my goal for 2008–it’s $4MM.

Life is great!

I wish the whole world could experience this feeling!

I am 39 years old and a mother of three. I had a career in the film industry for many years and decided to stay home when I had my third daughter. After being home full-time for three years, I started to joke around and call it Groundhog Day. Every day seemed to be a repeat of the day before. I love being home with my children, but I stopped living for myself.

About a year ago, I was introduced to the Live Dynamite ideas – stay positive, set goals, take action and create the life you want. I’d heard it all before, but suddenly I got it. I’d never heard of “The Law of Attraction” before and it changed my life. It suddenly became clear how your thoughts and emotions attract and create everything that comes into your life—how they become your reality. I feel as if I am starting my life over except I get to bring along the wisdom that I have acquired along the way.

Since I put this principle to work, many things in my life have changed. For many years now, I have wanted to work in the field of healing. I made that statement to myself and then shared it with some close friends. My intention was out there and amazingly enough, I was introduced to a tremendously gifted healer and teacher. I am now enrolled in his class and will have my certification next spring.

Another intention of mine is to be surrounded with people that are supportive of my journey. The most amazing people have walked into my life since then. Each person seems to contribute and encourage me along the way. I never fully realized how much energy was seeping out of me as others poured their fears all over my dreams.

Not everyday starts positive (I’m not much of a morning person). I do my best though to try to refocus my thoughts around what I want out of the day. I find that if I read my list of affirmations each morning, it helps to re-center me and I start the day.

I wish the whole world could experience this feeling. There is so much more inside each of us and it comes out when you follow this philosophy. I will forever be thankful and grateful that my eyes were open when the ideas crossed my path and that I had the courage to take action.

Handling life’s unexpected surprises.

I began building a framework three months ago, when my two-year-old son, Quinn, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. It’s a chronic disease that needs to be managed every day. Initially, my husband and I were in complete shock. How were we going to manage this? How could we leave him at daycare? All the food measuring, medicine and everything else that goes along with parenting a toddler seemed completely overwhelming.

It was just at that time that I attended a Live Dynamite Circle. I have to admit, at first I was a bit intimidated. Everyone seemed to have such awesome goals that they were going to achieve: starting new businesses, running marathons, writing books. I, on the other hand, just wanted to figure out how my husband and I could have a night out and not worry about our son’s care.

At that point, instead of greeting each other, we’d say, “What is Quinn’s blood sugar?” We clearly needed some time for us. So, this became one of my goals for my expand and create cards. However, it was not easy to believe I could accomplish this, because I had already told myself all the reasons why this just wouldn’t be possible. I had lots of self-doubt tapes playing in my head. Who can I trust? Taking care of Quinn is too much responsibility. Who will want to take this on? How can I possibly teach someone else what he needs?

In that first Circle meeting, I didn’t know how I was going to make it happen, I just knew I wanted and needed it to happen. So, I simply did it. I started with one expand and create card. Then, through the daily practice sheets and a growing sense of possibility, I put things in motion. I reached out to everyone I knew asking for help. One person led to another. I started to feel the momentum I had created. I found a couple of wonderful caregivers, one being a 15- year-old diabetic girl only blocks away!

Although this goal may seem “small” to others, it was the beginning of building a life with a newly-diagnosed diabetic child. There will be many times where I’ll have to “let go” and find new solutions. I need to believe that anything is possible. If I don’t believe, who will? So, I choose keep creating my life. And I choose to believe it’s all possible.

Thanks, Live Dynamite!

I’m on a roll!

Two great things came into my life this spring–Live Dynamite and vertigo! I was at my first Live Dynamite Circle on 3/1/07 and now two months later I’M ON A ROLL! I’ve accomplished three of my goals and am setting more.

Here’s my story. About a week after our first Circle session I sat down to write my goals. I’m a realtor and had a listing that had been on the market for 5 months. I really wanted to sell this house for my client and so I set a goal around selling it. I started giving thanks that “Melissa’s” home would get a fantastic offer and close by April 30th or sooner! It closed on April 20th, 2007!

Another goal I wrote was regarding my desire to work out 5 days a week! (Something I’d been saying I was going to do every week for the past 2.5 years!) I wrote my goal the way you showed us through Live Dynamite, started focusing on it and was committed to taking action!

I started achieving my goal on March 14th and now it’s a habit. The thought of not working out 5 days a week just isn’t an option! Also, between March 22 and April 16th I lost an inch around my hips, waist and chest! Yea! I’m still working out and loving it!

My third big goal I achieved was having vertigo leave my body! If you don’t know what vertigo is–it’s the feeling that you are constantly dizzy or spinning. My vertigo started January 15th and the symptoms were escalating! By March 22nd I was starting to feel like I was going to go insane.

At our second Live Dynamite session (3/22/07), I wrote a goal about my giving thanks and being excited to have a clear mind and having my vertigo leave my body so I could continue to work on my other life goals and dreams, by April 1st or sooner. I started reading (and feeling) my goal and giving thanks.

Two days later I was at the gym and ran into a women I used to train with. She knew I had vertigo and asked how I was doing. She than gave me a name of a women that did Crainiosacral work who had trained in a clinic in Toronto that specialized in vertigo! I was able to get an appointment with this women on March 27th and saw her again on April 1st. I have not had another episode of vertigo since April1st!

As I look back on it all, I see that having vertigo was really a gift. It forced me to slow down, prioritize and put into practice what I was learning in Live Dynamite.

This has been such a profound experience for me! I have embraced what I’ve learned through Live Dynamite. And now I’m encouraging others to make it a part of their daily lives.

Thank you Maryanne for bringing this into my life!!

I still believe and I still dream!

I was born and raised in Southern Africa. Today, I live and belong in the United States of America. It has been a long journey in the short 27 years I have known as my life. Let me share my journey with you.

I was born in Zimbabwe. My Mom moved out to Africa when she was only 10 years old. Her father decided to escape the industrial upheaval he faced in England by making a new life for his wife and children in Africa. It was, in my experience, a life of abundance. Dad worked the mines and paper mills, moving us around every five years or so, while Mom kept up the home and us kids.

At the age of 10 my father passed away while he lay beside my Mom. He had a heart attack. I know for years and years I wracked myself with guilt because I was mad at him that night. And I had thought to myself – I wish he would just die. And he did. I was a little innocent girl but had I really wished so hard that it actually happened? Today, I say no. This man had a history of heart disease and he had heart attacks before. I believe he was meant to pass on.

My mom went through a spiral down. Eventually she married again, a man who did not have any good intentions as far as his role of stepfather was concerned. He took advantage of what he had – in the most violating evil way a man can take something that does not belong to him. I endured his needs and wants for many years, until I graduated high school and was able to leave home.

I ran away as far as I could. I found myself in England. And in a new home. It’s place where a big part of my heart will always be. It’s the land where I finally met my biological father. A man whom I had the opportunity to share love and hope and tears and family! A great man.

This was also the land where I met the father of my son. We moved to America as soon as we found out we were pregnant. He was born and raised here and so it seemed to be the best choice. And as we settled into our new life the lights went out like an old house in a thunderstorm! He was abusive and violent. I spent many hours in the emergency room. He abused alcohol and had an affair. And so I chose to divorce him and move on with my life. Yet, it wasn’t as easy at that.

We still have a beautiful son together and so every day I work towards being neutral and being there for my son. My son is by far the most important person in my life! In 2006, at last I thought I had settled down and begun a new life. Until September 2006 on Labor Day! A man . . . a friend. . . who I invited into my home, strangled and assaulted me. Two months later I had all my teeth removed and replaced with dentures. Two months after that I was being sued by my ex-husband for full and complete custody.
During this time I was expected to go to trial and face the man who had violated my very being. Thankfully he pled guilty to four charges so I was spared from the courthouse.

A short while later, here I am. I am strong and ready to tackle a brand new life. It’s not easy, but you know what? It’s my life. . . I am responsible for it! I am going to be dammed if I let another person come along and determine that for me. I have started a new career in real estate that is only a stepping-stone for me. I am going back to Africa to house and feed the poor.

I truly believe that everything has happened for a reason!

Now, as I write this, I look I over at my beautiful fiancé who is reading an engineering book!! Oh my! He is beautiful inside as well as out. He is the other love of my life. I have three – my son, my Patrick and myself!!

And so today I look forward and move on. My past is my responsibility as strange as that may sound. No, I didn’t ask for the things that have happened, yet no one but me is keeping them here. So behind me they will go.

And hopefully through this program–Live Dynamite–so will my barriers!

Today, I didn’t expect my life to start spiraling up, but it has. I didn’t expect to make new friends, but I have. And so I am grateful. I have a new day tomorrow. And tomorrow I will have a new day after that one.

Today, I feel just a tad overwhelmed because I feel surrounded by so much energy and light and it brings me to tears!

I love that I can still believe, I can still dream and I can still write. I don’t even know how to express the deep bottomless gratitude I have for my life and the people that have come into it!

I am excited to be working towards my dream. Thank you so much for having the strength and courage to bring this into our lives.

Inspired to Act. Now.

I’m the guy who has read just about everything I could lay my hands on in the area of personal growth and self-development. And it was helpful. I’ve learned truly great things from these stories, conversations and books. I was inspired by the ideas and really planned to create a better life for myself–however I choose to define that. The problem was I never got around to putting the ideas or plans into action. Until now.

Live Dynamite has given me the tools to bridge the gap between Knowing & Doing. What I have really enjoyed, actually marveled in, are the conversations that I’ve been a part of in the Live Dynamite Circles–in the sessions and online. These conversations have generated ideas and FIRED ME UP. I’ve wanted to create more–and now I am.

I know that practicing what I’ve learned in the workshops is key to achieving success. I know that a positive attitude and language manifest in a variety of ways. And I know that the upside tools and structure have bridged the gap between what I know and what I do.

My Playbook is chockfull of ideas, thoughts and inspirations. I take out my expand & create cards to read between meetings. I am writing in my Daily Log (more days than not) and finding the patterns in my life that give me insight. I place my water glass next to my Big Thoughts coaster. It’s the one with Napoleon Hill’s quote, “Action is the real measure of intelligence.” I don’t want to cover up these inspiring words, because they drive me to DO. To plan. And DO!

I’m now more conscious of my actions and really feeling the gratitude I am experiencing. And tangible results have emerged. I set a goal at our first Circle and wrote it down on my expand & create cards. The card reads, “I am celebrating a 6-3, 6-2 win of my first tennis tournament by Dec. 31, 2007 or something better!”

I wrote this on Feb. 15 and have reviewed it regularly since. The upside is that mid-March I played in a tournament. I lost my first match, but came back to win the next four matches. And I took home a trophy–the Consolation Round Winner! My score was 6-4, 6-4, so not exactly as written. But I am proud of the results and love seeing the trophy on display.

I feel the momentum. It keeps me moving toward bigger, better and even more rewarding successes. This is what’s so cool about the Live Dynamite Circles and the Upside tools! It’s made it easier to chunk ideas down and take action. I know what I want to do. And I’M DOING IT!

It’s so simple!

Say it out loud. Write it down on paper. It all seems so simple. Actually, it is. Live Dynamite has helped me turn a passing idea into a full-fledged reality. Stunt Puppy started less than a year ago in my basement. Actually, in a corner of my basement. Now we’re poised to have our pet products distributed all across the nation.

In the past, I’ve been hesitant to tell others my goals and plans for the future. I figured it was bad luck. In reality, I wasn’t setting things in motion. Literally, from the day I started talking about my plans out loud, things started happening. It’s almost like they couldn’t stop moving.

I credit my time in a Live Dynamite Circle for waking me up. It was great to be around other people who were in the same boat. It’s reassuring to know there are a lot of smart, motivated people out there who just need a little push, a little support, a sounding board–just like me. It’s also been great to stay in touch with the other Circle members to have their support and watch their success.

Ideas are the seeds for growth.

During my experience with Live Dynamite, I began working on what I consider to me my life dream. It’s an incredibly daunting and “unrealistic” vision by most people’s standards, but I began to share my “secret” with others and consider what steps I would need to take to make the dream a reality.

Sharing my passion with others, identifying steps and writing down goals was incredibly helpful for me. As I look back at my Live Dynamite experience, I must admit that a “seed” was planted and I definitely began to move in a new direction from that very moment. It wasn’t only the activity we did together as a group, but it was also the great people I had the opportunity to meet, their feedback and the insightful interaction I had with them.

Give Live Dynamite a try. If you’re serious about fulfilling your goals, it’s a great place to begin!

I keep amazing myself!

The first time I attended a Live Dynamite Circle I felt super jazzed about what I was going to do. I saw myself moving forward again.

I took your advice and got a buddy to do this with. You’re right. Much easier to stay on track whe someone else is asking you if you’ve done what you said you were going to do.

It’s been great. We meet and check each week. I like having another set of eyes look at my goals and plan. Her encouragement means a lots. We keep each other going. We laugh and keep it fun.

Thanks for making this feel easier. I keep amazing myself by how much more I can do. It’s awesome.

Take the first step and then the next. And you reach your goal!

Four years ago after facilitating thousands of support groups for troubled youth I decided we were done doing “talk therapy” and we were going to use Yoga to go within and start with self-transformation. The children in the schools loved it. I was also teaching yoga at an athletic club.

I love teaching yoga and seeing the change and impact it can have in people’s lives. I’d often wished that I could do this full-time, but never believed I could make a living at it. And I had no idea how I’d ever get clients. It always seemed like a dream that was out of reach.

I started talking about how this was what I really wanted to do and was highly encouraged by Live Dynamite to go for it. Maryanne believed I could do it and pushed me to take action. I was introduced to the idea of the Law of Attraction and then saw a movie called The Secret. This idea that like attracts like and we create everything in our lives hit me like a ton of bricks. That really is how the whole world works.

Finally, after years of being asked to teach private yoga classes I decided to go for it. I sat down and wrote down my ideas on how I could start this business. I began to talk to people about signing up for private sessions. I asked my “business minded” friends for help and what to do next.

The more I spoke to others the more the dream came alive. It was as if I was already doing it. I used a lot of visualization and saw myself teaching the groups and taking more advanced training. I wrote affirmations surrounding my business that I read daily. Here are a few–

  • By Aug. 1st I have earned all my money for my advanced training
  • Money comes easily and readily (not something I’d ever experienced).

I worked the daily practice format. Each day I set a small goal for myself– write up business plan, contact Yoga Retreat Center in California, set pricing scale for individuals and group sessions, design business cards, order equipment–and took action.

Rather then feel overwhelmed by getting everything done at once, I did one small task each day. Each time I completed one task I felt closer to achieving my final goal. The excitement of attending the advanced training kept me motivated throughout the process. I felt like I had finally broken away from the mundane activities in my life and was inspired to transform and move forward.

I realized that in my teaching yoga I was using my social work skills in a kinesthetic way. This process did not come without fear and doubt. I surrounded myself with individuals that believed in me. I kept my attitude very positive and tried not to let myself focus on my fear. I realized that if I started out small I really had nothing to lose and asked – what’s the worst that could happen?

I tried to not let myself even go down the path of self-doubt– some days were easier than others. When I found myself moving toward fear I’d call someone who reassured me. Or I’d write down how much I’d done and acknowledge how far I’d come. I was accomplishing my goals. I had earned all the money I needed to attend training and had secured over 20 new clients. I’m doing it.

I also went to a Live Dynamite Circle and met others who were looking for more in their lives. It was really energizing to be with a group of people who were all motivated to change and take action. I was amazed at how much support they gave me – I didn’t know any of these people and they were encouraging me more than some of my lifelong friends.

I’m still working at creating my practice. My goal is to quit my job and run my practice full-time by September 1, 2007. I keep visualizing that I already have a successful business. It’s going to happen. Until then, I’ll continue to do Yoga in the schools and find ways to keep it going so kids can keep experiencing the power of Yoga. (I have another new goal – to create a Yoga program for our school district.)

Right now I have so much interest in my services, I am actually turning down requests for private sessions. Who knew? Well, I guess I did. But seeing it all come to life makes it easier to believe. The trick was that I had to believe I could do it to be able to see it happen. I know I’ll be running my own business soon and living the life I’ve dreamed of.

I’m constantly encouraging others to take that first step and figure out what they really want to do with their lives. You have to believe in yourself and find others that believe in you, too. I’m living proof that if you work at it you can do anything.

When you have goals, you have direction.

Live Dynamite got me excited about reaching my goals again. I’m a big believer in the power of goal setting and know they’re important in providing direction.

I found the “guide” to be really good. It was so great to have a system for ordering and going through the steps necessary for change. It made it much easier to break things down into actionable steps I could tackle. And it helped me to hold myself accountable and consistently check in on my progress.

The Upside is really helping me take steps toward my goals. I feel like it they more attainable now.
